Reformulated from SPF50, allows for the legitimate claim of VERY high sun protection classification.
SPF or Sun Protection Factor relates to the amount of time it takes for redness to appear on the skin compared to when no product is used at all. For example, if it takes 10 minutes for unprotected skin to show redness, then an SPF30 sunscreen correctly applied, in theory, will take 30 times longer or 300 minutes to burn. Laboratory tests are conducted to determine the rating of the SPF.
Interestingly SPF50+ filters out 98% of UVB radiation, while SPF30 still blocks out 96.7% of UVB but the 50+ allows a longer exposure time.
Vitamin E has been added to this new formula as an antioxidant to fight free radical damage in the skin which is common following excessive UV exposure to the skin. This added ingredient therefore helps reduce some of the potential for premature ageing by neutralising free radicals.
It is recommended to apply sunscreen 20 minutes before being exposed to UV and to reapply sunscreen every two hours or after swimming, sweating or towel drying. Other sun protection measures when UV levels are high are also helpful such as protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses as well as staying in the shade where possible.
Regular use of sun protection may assist in the prevention of some skin cancers, solar keratosis and sun spots, a good reason to incorporate it into your daily routine.
